About Ajanta & Ellora




Located close to the town of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, the Ajanta-Ellora Caves are known as UNESCO World Attribute Sites. Ajanta and Ellora Caves are 2 totally different tourist destinations, that are typically mentioned along. the explanation behind this can be that each are rock-cut cave memorials, that feature sensational paintings and solid figure.

The Ajanta Caves are located 107 km aloof from Aurangabad town, simply outside the small town of Ajanta. This complex contains twenty nine rock-cut cave monuments, that date back to around 2nd century BC. Building of the caves was evacuation 2 phases, the primary cluster of caves was engineered around two hundred BC, whereas the second cluster was inbuilt 600 AD.


Nestled within the semi-arid Sahayadri Hills on top of the Waghur River, the caves at Ajanta are famous for stunning paintings and sculptures that depict tales of Jatakas. engineered using solely striker and cheat, these caves serviced as secret areas for Buddhist monks, who performed their rituals within the chaityas and viharas of those caves.

The design within the caves contains well preserved wall paintings of Boddhisattva, Padmapani and Avalokiteshvar. On twenty eighth April 1819, these caves were rediscovered by a British officer, John Smith. His name beside the date continues to be faintly visible on the wall of Cave nine. 

 
A symbol of spiritual harmony of that point, the Ellora complicated includes twelve Buddhist, seventeen Hindu and five Jain caves. Caves one to twelve are Buddhist monasteries, chaityas and viharas, whereas caves thirteen to twenty nine are the Hindu temples. Dating back to the ninth and tenth century, caves thirty to thirty four are the Jain temples.

Every year in Aurangabad, the Ajanta-Ellora competition is organised for paying tribute to the legendary caves of Ellora, Ajanta and antithetic historical ownerships of India. This grand ceremony is attended by the best artists of Indian creation and culture. The social event includes executions in classical and people dancing, singing and instrumental music. Earlier the venue for this competition was Kailash Temple of Ellora Caves; but, it's currently been shifted to Soneri Mahal, that may be a historical palace within the town.
