The Karnala Tourism

Karnala is a well-known outpost town in the Raigad District of Maharashtra, located at an altitude of 475 m overhead ocean level. assessed by dense timber plantations and high hill varieties, this town is an perfect weekend getaway from Mumbai, which is located 61 km in the direction of the north. Lying on the Mumbai-Goa main road, Karnala is equidistant from Pen and Panvel, both of which are located at a distance of 10 km.

In 1819, the British East India business established its direct in the district. Karnala was advised strategically important as it instructed the trade route between Bhor Ghat and the rivers of Panvel and Apta. The region was declared as a bird sanctuary by the Maharashtra Government in 1968.

Karnala has gained prominence as a tourist place visited for its sanctuary (around 25 m above ocean grade) and the outpost (370 m overhead ocean level). The thumb formed pinnacle on the top, renowned as the Karnala Thumbs Up, is really a 1538 ft high volcanic plug. The high ground, better renowned as Funnel high ground, is farther adorned with the Karnala outpost that lies inside the protected region of the Karnala Bird Sanctuary.

Spread over an area of 4.27 sq km, the Karnala Bird Sanctuary is dwelling to over 150 species of resident and 37 species of migratory birds. The two rare birds that have been dotted here are Ashy Minivet and Malabar Trogon. From the bird sanctuary, visitors can choose to ascend up to the Karnala Fort to explore the region.
